The names Clapton. Eric Clapton

While many of todays youth think of him as a solo act or someone who has done countless duet projects, like with say, BB King, another artist with an amazing past.

Before going solo, he was with The Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominos.

Not to shabby.

For your love-The Yardbirds. Claptons last song with them, as he thought they were getting to 'pop'.

time for a Traffic report...

An amazing band, their history is So complicated with who was in the band, at what time, and what other bands the members had been with or went on to form, I'm just giving you the link to the band here (as an example, Steve Winwood was with Spencer Davis group, Traffic, Blind Faith, and Go).

Covers of Bob Dylan songs

Okay, sorry, but not a Bob Dylan fan.

Love his music, love his lyrics, Hate him doing his own stuff.

But it's simply amazing how many other singers/bands have covered his songs over the years and still do today.

According to a website that does nothing but keep track of the folks covering him, called appropriately enough It Ain't Me, Babe at http://www.bjorner.com/Covers.htm they currently show 5,780 covers of 350 different Dylan songs by 2,791 artists.

Seasons in the sun, a tribute....

Been a while since I've done a music post.

While on youtube, found Seasons in the sun, by Terry Jacks, and that is the version that I remembered. I was gosh, like 14 when it came out. I remember being on the bus, coming back from a basketball game or wrestling match, and this would come on, and the girls would all be crying.

What surprised me was all the cover versions of this....although to be fair, not sure if Jacks did it first, or just had the best known version.

Here is his:

Vivaldi's Summer, Metal style

For you sly dear, (and others)
One of the Harder Metal Bands out there, Children of Bodom, are here in the studio playing Vivaldi's Four Season's-Summer.
Not faked, if it looks at first like his playing doesn't match the music, wait a sec, till the camera pulls back, and you see his buddy there playing as well.

ps, as a side note, the legendary rock guitarist Randy Rhoads, one time guitarist for Ozzy before he died, was working on his Masters in classical guitar. Point being, just cause your a metalhead, is no excuse for poor musicianship.

Yeah, I always like Alice (Vincent) myself...saw him and his band (the original, and best band) a couple of times back in the early 70's. I worked security at one show, which was okay until he started throwing money, and then the crowd went ape and I had to duck under the stage :-) A great rock band!

Modern music for Joe Mudd and Sly

Argh! I went to post this, and the dumb computer blipped on me, and I lost over half the post! So, will be posting this now as part one, and will try to recreate the rest when I have time later.)
and others.

But he gets singled out, not only since he commented on my music blogs, but also mentioned that he doesn't listen to the radio anymore.

And Sly gets mentioned cause she'll beat me if I don't. Actually cause she likes my jukebox lists. Even though she does beat me.

Now, my original anti American Idol post I still stand by, however, I do think that there are lots of good artists and groups out there today. Now, 'new' is going to be a relative term, some of these 'breakout' acts have been around for a while. I've been exposed to a lot of new music over the last years by having one set of teens in the house after another.

I think one of the problems with radio and the 'radio' channels on tv today, is that they are To compartmented! That was one of the nice things about top 40 stations, you got a mix of everything.

For example, on our tv package, I have the choice, just within the 'rock' genre, of Metal, Rock, Arena Rock, and Classic Rock, followed by Alternative, and Adult Alternative (and no, those are NOT the easy listening stations!)

Last year, when I was back in the midwest there was a radio station there that advertised it self as The Rock station, home of the classic hits, And the new hits.

And it Was a good mix.

So, here are a bunch of newer artists or groups and songs I like that you won't find on classic rock, but who I think rock anyway. And yes, there are more than a few who are destined to be one hit wonders, but then, classic rock has those too....

Hope you find something new you might like.

Jet (LOVE this group. )

Bad news is right. For the record business, and the consumer. Talent, and mastery of your instrument is no longer required. What passes for music these days makes me sick. I haven't listened to the radio in years. The only stations playing anything worth listening to anymore are the oldies stations.

Hey Joe...I bet you've mastered your "instrument!" BAH HAA HAA HA HAAAAAABut seriously, I understand how you feel, Joe. But not listening to any of it is cutting yourself off from some really good songs. For instance, you are Huge Beatles fan, and don't usually like the covers of their albums. But, you did like the few that I posted on my old blog that were just covers. I know, because you have one posted somewhere yourself...I think on your other web page. Anyway, don't cut your nose off to spite your face. I'm sure if you tried you would find something new out there that you would like. Until then, I guess you'll just have to stick with mastering your own instrument! BAHH AHHA HAAAHAAA(gawd..sorry though. my sense of humor lately has been quite on the juvenile side!)Somebody!! SLAP ME!!!Love,Sly

ps...i Love Operator! all i've listened to so far.kiss

I'm afraid I have some bad news, part 1

Entry for September 11, 2008 I'm afraid I have some bad news.part 1

Apparently, the horror show that is American Idol, is getting ready to start up again.

Ugh.

And me with a 16 year old girl in the house. Ugh.

I mean, what Is it with these people, and not just talking about all the really, really, really horrid ones who don't even make the first cut, and hopefully, know how dreadful they are, and are just doing this to get their one minute of fame on tv.

But my gawd. Even the top twenty, or twenty four, or whatever it is, they aren't that good either!

And, it's not that I simply don't care for pop, a lot of pop music I like.

But really, when was the last time you heard Any song from an American idol 'winner' on your adult alternative station, or your soft rock station? They may have something out for a bit, post win, while still shoveling out the publicity and throwing a lot of ad money around, but, good pop songs stick around cause people want to hear them.

And even those that had a hit, how many more did they have than that?

Without a show like American Idol, most of these folks would have never been heard from. They simply don't have the innate skill, or training (Prince once remarked, when working with some pop singers, that most didn't even know basic scales....), and when you compare them to pop/top 40 singers of the past, well, they certainly don't do well by comparison.

To bad we can't vote to have them beaten with sticks. Well, the guys anyway. The girls deserve bare bottom beatings of a different kind.

Anyways, for comparisons sake, here are some pop/top 40 (for you kids, that was the type of radio format I grew up with, when we finally got a radio station that played something other than country/western.

It was like that scene in the Blues Brothers- "We like both kinds of music, Country AND Western!", and top 40 was just that, the top forty songs on the chart. Could be pop, solo, groups, 'standards', a bit of rock, soul, r and b...) singers of the past who didn't suck, and who proved they could sing over and over again.

And, keep in mind these are simply the best I could find online, so sound quality isn't always the best...but still.

Carole King - singer AND songwriter.
Will you still love me? (if you actually listen to the lyrics, is this not something most girls have thought? This was a Very racy song when I was growing up, because it actually was talking about premarital sex. Yes, times have changed.)

OMG! SOOOOOOOO Many Wonderful Songs!!!!! But right now, am just going to comment on this one...Bill Withers! He's not unknown in This house. We have a CD of his and was just listening to it a couple weeks ago! Simply Red?? OMG!! That brings back SOO Many memories of that time era for me. Melts just thinking about it...that's about the time I came out of the closet, so, Very good times for me during that time. Wow! It's Amazing how music can snatch you up and place you right back where you were 10-20-30...years ago. Sigh...Love you, baby...and thank you Very much for all the work you do to get all this music together. Your page can now, officially, be called the Juke Box page!Deep Kiss...Love,Yours
